No easy way to say this...but, I'm being laid off

Last week before my library conference I found out that I was going to be laid off.

It's not just me, but many of my colleagues who have years in the profession are slated to be laid off because of Erie County budget cuts. There's going to be severe staff and hours reductions at the B&ECPL libraries.

The thing that pisses me off the most? That the county executive has a surplus of stimulus money.

I'm sad when I think about it. It almost seems like the people that are being laid off are the ones that love their jobs the most.

I'm not sure if I'll be laid off at the beginning of January or February. I'm still waiting to hear word.

*sigh*

Ow.. hang in there. My M8 was out of work for 11 months 2008-2009, so there's light at the end of most tunnels. Learn how to file for unemployment now, and do it online (if you are able) as *soon* as you are able. That should keep you fed.. and hopefully get you to interviews. One nice things about layoffs is the hope of "preferred rehire" if the budget picks up.

Sorry for this news, I'm convinced it's a coyote year; just let the trickster do it's thing, some good, some bad.
