It has been a while since an entry of DOOM. Consider this your warning. ^__~!

Let’s see if I can manage an update since I haven’t posted regularly for the past couple months. I'm going to work my way backwards. This covers New Year's, Christmas, Thanksgiving, the engagement story, and a few other things.

New Year’s Day – I spent the day with Steve. :) He’ll be doing some overtime in January, so its been nice spending time with him when we both have off. We watched movies, the Sabres game (I sported my new Sabres t-shirt), and played some Lego Harry Potter.

New Year’s Eve – We met up with my mom’s side of the family for some bowling. I had fun until idiot relatives ruined it. I’m still sore from not having bowled for a year.

We stayed up to watch the ball drop on TV and I got my first new year's midnight kiss. ^__^ I expect there shall be many more.

The previous week – Sinus issues with a lovely little infection, which I think I may have tamed with using a Netti pot. We shall see how this progresses.

Christmas Eve

The morning started with my mom coming over to our apartment. We exchanged gifts and had some breakfast together.

Steve and I then went over to my dad’s side of the family. It was okay up to a certain point until it veered to the point of disaster. We didn’t stay long.

Christmas Day – We headed over to Steve’s Ukrainian uncle’s house. I met his Aunt and little cousin. I had met his Uncle several months prior. We had what I thought was going to be a light lunch, but we had salad, then ham with pineapple, rice, & corn, followed by dessert (cake and cookies) with coffee. 0__0 I was so full!

After that we headed over to my maternal grandparent’s house.

Needless to say by the time I got home, my stomach was all rumbly and I took a nap on the couch.

Pre-Christmas Weekend

Sarah was in town, so Alex, myself, and Steve met her for lunch at the Sake Café. (Yum! Japanese!)

The next day Steve took me out for more Japanese for my Christmas gift and I got some chicken katsu at Samurai. I also had a salad with this (the dressing was amazing!), miso soup, gyoza, and warm sake.

Later that day Steve and I headed over to Taylor’s house (our neighbor, his good friend) for a party. We played some darts and I discovered just how yummy rum & cokes can be. ^__~ A few weekends prior for a Sabres game we watched on TV, I found out that I liked Fuzzy Navels.

We also had a friend in town post-Christmas (Shannon! Yay!), so we hung out with her and went for Chinese for lunch. I also exchanged gifts with friends on the following Sunday. *grin* I rather enjoy my ‘365 Reasons to have sex’ calendar, LOL! I also really like Darth Vader slippers!!! Oh! I’ll have to bake some cookies with my new Star Wars cookie cutters soon too.

Speaking of Star Wars, thanks to a friend I have a Jedi tunic…

Engagement Story

On November 21, 2010 Steve proposed to me and I said, “Yes.” I had been feeling down because of the impending library lay-offs when he came over to comfort me. Prior to this, I had given him an opal ring ( one that my grandfather had given to my grandmother before he passed away) because I didn’t know my ring size and it was the only ring that fit well. He asked if he should get the ring, I nodded, and he got down on one knee saying that no matter what we’d get through everything together.

My mom’s reaction is perhaps the best to this news:

Me: *calls her* “Mom, I have some news. Are you sitting down?”

My mom: “Yes.”

Me: “I’m engaged!”

My mom: “Oh thank god, I thought you were calling to tell me you were either pregnant or in an accident.”

Me: “Mom!!” *laughs*

We're planning for a date some time mid-to late 2012. Actually, planning-wise we really haven't gotten that far yet. Steve's got an acquaintance whose a DJ and I've got a colleague who can marry us. But yeah, totally not in a whole 'wedding' planning stage even though I did get a few books out from the library. I got all distracted staring at tropical waterfalls, so you know where my mind is at, lol.

We're taking our time and enjoying living together. ^__^

Library Update
Despite the fact the county is allocating some funds to the library, after the executive threatened to cut them. The system is still laying people off because of a budget shortfall. I have received my letter. My last day is February 2. While my director is fighting for me, I won’t know anything definite until the end of this week, which is driving me nuts because of the not knowing. As it stands, I’ve been beyond stressed and upset about the whole situation. I will confess to absolutely breaking down, keeping a smiling face at the library only to come home to crumble. We recently implemented some RFID technology self-checkout machines and it’s a dagger through my heart every time a patron says, “Oh, taking your job away huh?”

I don’t answer them anymore, trying to explain this grant was planned several years ago and that the timing is just really bad. I also resist the urge to smash a chair over their heads.

So the whole library situation is a touchy subject and I feel such despair when I even think about it, so I try not.

Emotional State
Because the Red Dragon was making me practically homicidal every month (my cramps were also getting pretty bad), I started on birth control. Its been a roller coaster with my hormones because my body is getting used to them (its been about 2 months now). There are some days when some little thing will set me off and I start to cry (or want to kill something). Steve’s learned to recognize when it’s just my body releasing and when I’m genuinely upset about something. He’s learned to handle my crazy and can tame the beast (he’s very calming). And for TMI purposes don’t even get me started on the random spotting.
